The Jo Adell Turkey Drive

The Jo Adell Turkey Drive was first held in November 2017 in conjunction with the Louisville Metro Police Foundation and Jefferson County Public Schools.

Because of Jo’s connection with the students at Newburg Middle School and its Resource Officer, the Newburg Petersburg Community was selected as the area to hold this seasonal event.

Jo wanted students in JCPS involved in this effort to assist those in need, so every year, students participate by donating traditional, Thanksgiving non-perishables. Students are also on hand the day of the event to assist with the distribution of the Thanksgiving Meals.

Because of Jo’s genuine relationship with the school’s LMPD Resource Officer, Jo wanted students, families and community members to see and interact with the Louisville Metro Police Department in a positive manner as well. Because of this, since its conception, the Louisville Metro Police Foundation plays a key role in providing hundreds of turkeys for all families. However, one of the best parts of the annual Jo Adell Turkey Drive is having the different LMPD Specialty Units on hand, collaboratively working with students to distribute meals, and positively interacting with the community.
